Oscars 2020 Nominations: 16 Biggest Shocks, Snubs & Surprises
15. Snub: Jennifer Lopez (Hustlers) & Zhao Shuzhen (The Farewell) - Best Supporting Actress
One of the most egregious snubs in all the acting fields was Jennifer Lopez missing out on a Best Supporting Actress nod for her fantastic work in Hustlers, especially given the honestly fairly middling quality of the nominees.
Kathy Bates (Richard Jewel) and Margot Robbie (Bombshell) gave decent performances in OK movies at best, and given how much the Academy loves to reward left-field talent, it's a real shame that J-Lo's career-redefining work wasn't recognised.
Equally frustrating was the omission of The Farewell's Zhao Shuzhen, whose dignified, restrained work in that film lends it much of its universally affecting appeal.
The category is pretty much a lock for Laura Dern (Marriage Story) to win, but even so, a little more diversity and daring would've gone a long way here.
