18. Best International Film
This category has had a strange year as Minari was constantly mis-categorised as an international film at the majority of precursors. Being mostly in Korean, the precursors ignored the fact that Minari is inherently American at its core so its absence here is appreciated. This has left an awkwardness of sorts as all the nominees in this category know that they wouldn't really have a chance if Minari was nominated here.
With Minari out, the category is still a done deal, Another Round is going to run away with this award. A comical drama about four unfulfilled teachers who decide to maintain a level of drunkenness throughout the day is a fantastic film. Thomas Vinterburg scored a surprise Best Director nomination which speaks volumes as to the support behind the film.
It is one of the easiest categories of the night to call and Another Round will be bringing the Oscar home for Denmark.
