Oscars 2021 Nominations: Biggest Surprises And The Worst Snubs

9. Snub: Da 5 Bloods - Best Actor

Judas And The Black Messiah Movie Daniel Kaluuya
Netflix

Da 5 Bloods has had a rough time across the board at the awards ceremonies. From being completely shut out of the conversation at the Golden Globes to now only receiving one Oscar nomination for Best Original Score.

However, the one individual who has suffered the most is Delroy Lindo who gave an incredibly nuanced performance as a MAGA hat-wearing embittered Vietnam war veteran. At one point in Da 5 Bloods the established actor delivers a mesmerising Shakespearian-style monologue directly to camera, surely a showreel for his Best Supporting Acting nomination? Subtle the monologue and overall performance is not, but powerful it certainly is.

No matter what you think of Da 5 Bloods, and this is coming from someone who thinks it is one of Spike Lee's weaker films, you cannot deny the powerhouse performance of Lindo. While Chadwick Boseman's glorified cameo is a welcome addition, this is very much the 68-year-old's film and probably his best shot at Oscar gold this far into his largely unrewarded career.
