Oscars 2021 Results: All The Major Winners (And Who Should Have Really Won)

5. Best International Feature Film - Another Round

Nomadland 2021
Nordisk Film

Thomas Vinterberg picked up the honours for Best International Feature Film for Denmark's entry, Another Round. Having gone through an extremely horrific personal tragedy, the Danish director spoke very openly about losing his daughter and the passion she had for his project, dedicating the film (and the award) to her. An extremely emotional speech, and a well deserved win for the director who brought us previous Mads Mikkelsen classic The Hunt.

Predicted winner: Another Round

With an unexpected Oscar nomination for Best Director, Vinterberg's ode to alcohol and its influence (for better and for worse) was the favourite to win this category. Thanks also to the star power of Mikkelsen (Hannibal, Casino Royale, Rogue One) this Danish drama was given an incredible amount of attention and was clearly the film to beat for International Feature Film.

Rightful winner: Quo Vadis, Aida?

Quo Vadis, Aida is an incredibly tense, heart-breaking and memorable film which was not given the love it truly deserves. Whether this was due to the lack of star power, being quite a tough watch or the lack of voter knowledge about Bosnia, the incredible film was sorely overlooked and may go down as an example where the Oscars got it wrong. If you have not done so already, give this film a watch.
