Oscars 2021 Review: 8 Ups & 8 Downs
2. Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross Win Second Oscars
Unsurprisingly, Soul won the Best Original Score Oscar, scoring a first-time gong for jazz pianist Jon Batiste and second Oscars for composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
Few Nine Inch Nails fans could've ever anticipated that Reznor would become an Oscar fave, but a decade after he and Ross won their first Oscars for scoring The Social Network, they're now picking up awards for a Pixar film of all things. Surreal.
It's all the more impressive an achievement considering they were effectively competing against themselves with their Mank score also in contention, and history dictates how this often leads to a split vote that causes nominees to win neither award.
Thankfully that wasn't the case here, and two of the most talented composers working today received another well-earned Oscar each.
