Oscars 2021: Who Should Win Every Award (And Who Actually Will)

5. Best Adapted Screenplay

Oscars 2021 Anthony Hopkins Chadwick Boseman
Sony Pictures Classics

Nominees

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm (Sacha Baron Cohen, Anthony Hines, Dan Swimer, Peter Baynham, Erica Rivinoja, Dan Mazer, Jena Friedman, and Lee Kern)

The Father (Christopher Hampton and Florian Zeller)

Nomadland (Chloé Zhao)

One Night in Miami (Kemp Powers)

The White Tiger (Ramin Bahrani)

Who Should Win: The Father

Florian Zeller adapted his 2012 play Le Père to the screen with sublime skill, making the absolute most of the cinematic medium to tell his tragic, terrifying story in a completely different way. It's a mammoth achievement.

Who Will Win: Nomadland

This is definitely one of the trickier outcomes to call. Nomadland has been the frontrunner for most of Oscar season, but The Father has had an undeniable late-stage surge of momentum.

Chloé Zhao remains ahead of the pack, though, so she'll probably still take the gong home.
