Oscars 2021: Who Should Win Every Award (And Who Actually Will)
16. Best Supporting Actress
Nominees
Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm)
Glenn Close (Hillbilly Elegy)
Olivia Colman (The Father)
Amanda Seyfried (Mank)
Yuh-Jung Youn (Minari)
Who Should Win: Olivia Colman
Olivia Colman did an absolutely sublime job playing an embattled daughter trying to cope with her father's (Anthony Hopkins) worsening dementia in The Father, and without her work Hopkins' performance wouldn't punch quite as hard as it does.
Who Will Win: Yuh-Jung Youn
Considering Colman already has an Oscar, it'll be tough to begrudge Yuh-Jung Youn's lovely, widely-celebrated performance in Minari when it picks up the expected win.
Best Supporting Actress has been a rather curious field this year - at first it seemed like Amanda Seyfried had it locked down before Mank's momentum quickly cooled, and for a little while there were whispers of Glenn Close building a head of steam for what would undeniably be a "career Oscar."
Sorry Glenn - we love you, but this just isn't your year (though stranger upsets have definitely happened).
