Who Should Win: Sound of Metal

As the only five of the nominated films intimately concerned with the means through which human beings process sound, it's only fitting that Sound of Metal's adventurous-yet-ungimmicky sound work should win the gong.

Cinema has perhaps never more effectively put audiences into the mind of a person going deaf, so this isn't even close.

Who Will Win: Sound of Metal

Darius Marder's film has largely dominated the category along the awards circuit, and it's certainly the one nominated film that will announce itself to the wider voting body. It's pretty much locked in.
