Oscars 2022: 10 Fan Favourite Category Nominees Ranked From Least To Most Likely To Win

9. Malignant

Spider-Man No Way Home
Warner Bros.

The fact that James Wan's bonkers conjoined twin psychological horror/slasher movie ended up on the list is a sign that you really can't predict how people will act. However, on release, Malignant was a big talking point on horror movie Twitter so it's easy to see how those conversations have bled into the popular votes.

The strange thing about Malignant's inclusion in the popular vote is that it has a higher critic score (76%) than audience score (52%) on Rotten Tomatoes. If the Fan Favorite Oscar is an attempt to open things up to the popular movies that snobbish film critics and awards voters prefer then, statistically speaking, Malignant is not that film. In light of that figure, it's strange that the film got enough votes to be nominated, though the answer could be quite simple: memes

Still, the low audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is a decent indicator that James Wan's latest horror won't be winning any awards on Sunday night. Despite how anarchic it would be for this gleefully bonkers movie to be recognised by the Academy.
