Oscars 2022: 10 Fan Favourite Category Nominees Ranked From Least To Most Likely To Win

Sing 2 is an odd choice for the list. It's hard to imagine enough people being as tied to the animated sequel as some of the other nominees. It's also not as if Sing 2 is an obviously snubbed film from the Best Animated Picture category either. The real controversy will be when the Academy plays it safe by awarding Encanto over the more inventive Mitchells V.S The Machines.

So how has Sing 2 ended up in the Fan Favorite list? It's likely that it's as much to do with the film's animation studio as it is passionate U2 or Scarlett Johansson fans. Sing 2 is made by Illumination Entertainment, the animation studio best known for their Despicable Me and Minions movies.

Over the past decade, the Best Animated Picture has been dominated by Disney and Pixar. Is the outpouring of support for Sing 2 based on this too? People love an underdog, and as Disney's Encanto looks like a shoo-in for the Oscar on Sunday, their dominance is something that will last until next year's ceremony and beyond.

It's unlikely to win because, despite a strong cast of fan favourite actors, Sing isn't the same sort of powerhouse franchise title as the others.
