Oscars 2022: 10 Fan Favourite Category Nominees Ranked From Least To Most Likely To Win

3. Dune

Much like tick, tick...BOOM! Dune has also delighted both critics and audiences. When the Academy was criticised for not recognising big commercial blockbusters like Spider-Man: No Way Home, many pointed to Dune as evidence that this simply wasn't the case. Despite its weighty source material and more cerebral tone, Dune is a big-budget genre movie from a commercial studio.

Despite Denis Villeneuve's conspicuous absence from the Best Director nominations, the film is represented well elsewhere in the nominations. It's unlikely, therefore, that Dune will be awarded the Fan Favourite award. Timothée Chalamet and Oscar Isaacs, father and son in the film have very thirsty fanbases on social media, and that's likely what's driving the votes here.

After all, Frank Herbert readers are far too smart to waste their time voting for the big-screen adaptation of his novel in an innocuous online poll. Given how many appear to perceive Dune as an obscure art film, it's unlikely that it's got overwhelming support from aggrieved Twitter users. Dune's inclusion in the nominations is more likely to be a show of support for Chalamet, Isaacs and maybe even the snubbed Denis Villeneuve.
