Oscars 2022: 10 Fan Favourite Category Nominees Ranked From Least To Most Likely To Win
4. Tick, Tick...Boom
Andrew Garfield has been rightly nominated for a Best Actor award for his role as Jonathan Larson in tick, tick...BOOM! It's a moving performance of the artist as a young man, at the cusp of critical acclaim and artistic recognition. Based on Larson's autobiographical musical, it captures late 20s angst and fondly pays tribute to Larson's hit musical RENT.
Those passionate musical theatre kids who weren't so keen on Camila Cabello's Cinderella movie have clearly rallied behind this instead. It's a far better film, but it's unlikely to win the popular vote, despite the involvement of both Andrew Garfield and Lin Manuel-Miranda. Garfield's fans may have defected to Spider-Man: No Way Home, while Manuel-Miranda fans may be placated by his Best Original Song nomination for Encanto's Dos Oruguitas.
There's also not much difference in the critics and audience consensus on Rotten Tomatoes either. There's only an 8% difference, suggesting that critics and audiences are on the same page as to the film's charms. Without that crucial divide between critics and audiences, there's much less passion and fury in the voting. It's therefore incredibly likely that the film won't be winning any awards on Sunday evening.
