Oscars 2022: 10 Possible Contenders For Next Year's Ceremony

8. Mass

A harrowing tale of what parents from both sides of a school shooting go through has received strong reviews out of the Sundance Film Festival. Fran Kranz, who is still most likely known for his role as the stoner kid stereotype in The Cabin in the Woods, makes his directorial debut.

The primary awards focus here is likely to converge around Ann Dowd and Jason Isaacs who will be looking to score their maiden nominations in the supporting category. Isaacs is a popular actor who has somehow managed to only score a single Golden Globe nomination for his work on the mini-series The State Within.

Dowd, on the other hand, has had a major career surge since her iconic role as Aunt Lydia on The Handmaid's Tale scored her a Best Supporting Actress Emmy. Dowd has been phenomenal for years and is now starting to receive the recognition she rightly deserves, will the Oscars be the next voting body to shower her with praise?

Both actors have been lauded for their work on Mass but it will be a tricky task to market a film that is so dark. Pieces of a Woman had this struggle, managing to break through with a nomination for Vanessa Kirby but failing to make a dent in any other categories. Hopefully Mass will fare better.
