Oscars 2022: 10 Possible Contenders For Next Year's Ceremony

7. Dune

Warner Bros.

There is a lot more riding on Dune than just awards recognition. With Star Wars floundering on the big screen and finding a safer place on television, there's a gap in the market for the next big Science Fiction franchise that could grip audiences and critics alike.

Director Denis Villeneuve has been putting out consistently praised films for the last decade and seems like the perfect man to tackle Frank Herbert's ambitious and heralded Sci-Fi saga.

Dune is stacked with notable names such as Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Oscar Isaac, Stellen Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling and more. Warner Bros. are throwing everything they can at Dune, hoping it'll stick better than the previous adaptations of Herbert's work.

The studio is definitely hoping for a "too big to fail" strategy that could easily backfire but could also help to propel Dune as the next big thing in cinema. If they can pull it off, expect to see the Academy wanting to capitalise on its popularity.
