Oscars 2022: All 20 Actors Who Could Get Their First Oscar Nomination

It's probably not unfair to call Clifton Collins, Jr. a "that guy" character actor whose face and voice you will absolutely recognise, even if you may not know his name.

But Collins was given the long-overdue opportunity to showcase his leading man chops in sports drama Jockey, where he plays an over-the-hill jockey struggling to accept that his career is winding down.

Jockey isn't a particularly fresh or original film overall, but Collins' magnetic, quietly devastating performance is a masterclass in character building.

Sure to be compared to Mickey Rourke's work in The Wrestler, Collins nevertheless makes the part entirely his own and would make for one hell of a deserving Oscar nominee were his name read out.

He's definitely an outside-the-box contender given that nothing else in the film is likely to be nominated, but it's a great performance that's totally deserving of the attention.
