Oscars 2022: Every Acting Nominee Ranked

7. Ariana DeBose - West Side Story

King Richard Will Smith
20th Century Fox

If the critical reception and previous award ceremonies are to be believed, Ariana DeBose seems to have already won Best Supporting Actress at this year's Oscars.

The former Hamilton star is the shining standout of Steven Spielberg's magnificent West Side Story remake, portraying the fiery Anita with all the energy and passionate dance moves you'd expect from such a veteran of the stage.

But DeBose's performance is more than just flashy dance moves and strong vocal work; she also injects a more modern spin on the character, playing her not only as a loyal and commanding voice, but a woman way ahead of her time despite the societal hardships placed on her in 50s America.

If DeBose does end up winning the award (fingers crossed), she'll win the same award Rita Moreno won in 1961 for debuting Anita on the big screen.
