6. Andrew Garfield - Tick, Tick...BOOM!
Like quite a few actors on this list, Andrew Garfield has been on a phenomenal winning streak of late, and his ludicrously fun work in Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tick, Tick...BOOM! is his finest performance to date.
Starring as gone-too-soon writer Jonathan Larson, Garfield's performance is an even mix of musical sequences and quiet character interactions. Not only does he capture Larson's passionate lust for life, but he also injects a heartbreaking amount of humanity into him instead of just playing him as a caricature.
With brilliant vocal work, a keen eye for the comedy of Larson's play, and plenty of exhausting musical numbers to get through, Garfield's performance transcends the movie he's in at every turn. He'll break your heart, but also leave you smiling.
Victory may be out of reach this year, but even so Tick, Tick...BOOM! has promised he'll win an Oscar sooner rather than later.
