Oscars 2022: Every Acting Nominee Ranked

2. Olivia Colman - The Lost Daughter

King Richard Will Smith
Netflix

Forming a full performance with her on-screen younger self Jessie Buckley, Olivia Colman's latest acting masterclass in The Lost Daughter just goes to show why she's one of our finest working actresses.

As uncertain mother Leda, Colman's portrayal of grief, depression, and emotional turmoil is heartbreaking to watch, as she brings to life all of Leda's flaws and virtues without shying away from the darkness in the character.

It's a subtle and measured role, brave in its complexities and unflinching in the face of its twists, and Colman wastes no time capturing every aspect of what makes Leda tick.

This nomination marks Colman's third nod in three years, having already won one for her work in the wild black comedy The Favourite, and though she's sure to be beaten at the line by either Stewart or Kidman, seeing her win would be the best outcome for the category.
