Oscars 2022: Every Acting Nominee Ranked

17. Jesse Plemons - The Power Of The Dog

King Richard Will Smith
Netflix

Everyone loves Jesse Plemons, an actor who's undeniably one of the most exciting talents working today, so it was great to see him sneak into the Best Supporting Actor race for his small but compelling work in The Power of the Dog.

For his first of what promises to be several Oscar nominations, Plemons gives a performance that's quietly sad and hopelessly romantic, as he falls in love and finds his troubled brother slip away from him.

It's strong stuff, but the main issue is a big one: Barely around in the movie's second half, his performance ultimately feels the least complete of his three co-stars (all of whom were also nominated), and not quite as compelling as the unnominated work of Bradley Cooper, Jamie Dornan, or Red Rocket's Simon Rex.

The good news is that Plemons is now one step closer to the Oscar he'll surely win in time.
