Oscars 2022: Final Predictions In Every Category

9. Best Visual Effects

Dune Power of the Dog Tammy Faye
Warner Bros. Pictures

NOMINEES:

Dune

Free Guy

No Time to Die

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Spider-Man: No Way Home

What Should Win: Dune

This is one of the weaker VFX fields of recent times, with nothing else getting anywhere near Dune's sublime integration of CGI and live-action elements.

What Will Win: Dune

This is a slam-dunk if there ever was one. Oscar voters are generally pretty good at not simply voting for "most visual effects," and so it's difficult to picture Free Guy or either Marvel film winning.

No Time to Die's VFX meanwhile aren't particularly showy, whereas Dune's are both attention-grabbing and perfectly blended into the on-set photography.

Dune has been cleaning up in this category all season, so don't expect any surprises.
