Oscars 2022: Final Predictions In Every Category

8. Best Original Screenplay

Dune Power of the Dog Tammy Faye
Universal

NOMINEES:

Belfast (Kenneth Branagh)

Don't Look Up (Adam McKay, David Sirota)

Licorice Pizza (Paul Thomas Anderson)

King Richard (Zach Baylin)

The Worst Person in the World (Eskil Vogt, Joachim Trier)

Who Should Win: Licorice Pizza (Paul Thomas Anderson)

This is a toss-up between Licorice Pizza and The Worst Person in the World, though Anderson just about clinches it with the uniqueness of his vision, daring character work, and sly comedy.

Who Will Win: Licorice Pizza (Paul Thomas Anderson)

Anderson inexplicably has 11 Oscar nominations without a win, and so there's certainly the feeling that he's long overdue some recognition.

Despite all the Film Twitter controversies about the film's central relationship and depictions of race, Oscar voters likely couldn't care less, and simply love seeing a beloved auteur in absolute command of his craft.

That said, with Don't Look Up scoring a surprise last-minute win over Licorice Pizza at the Writers Guild of America Awards, and Belfast not being an eligible nominee at the WGAs, that could spell a Kenneth Branagh win at the Oscars.
