Oscars 2022 Review: 7 Ups & 8 Downs
3. Amy Schumer Steals The Show
Though a lot of people groaned when divisive comedian Amy Schumer was announced to be co-hosting the Oscars alongside Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall, in some respects she ended up being the show's saving grace.
While she had to suffer through some of the bland aforementioned material alongside her co-hosts, she fared much better when working on her own and delivering a number of catty quips to the assembled Academy members.
Surely Schumer's highlight was returning to the Dolby Theatre after Will Smith's slap and feigning ignorance, wondering why the atmosphere of the ceremony had changed so drastically.
She made a valiant effort to try and cut through the tension, and her barbed gags during her solo monologues served as a welcome reminder that she's a damn talented roast comic.
