Oscars 2022 Review: 7 Ups & 8 Downs

2. The In Memoriam Segment Forgets Bob Saget, Ed Asner & More

This year's In Memoriam segment unfortunately had to follow the slap heard around the world, and as usual many took to social media to complain about a number of beloved late actors omitted from the montage.

The most-criticised exclusion was comedy legend Bob Saget, who while certainly better known for his TV work, had a number of film credits to his name and won a Student Academy Award back in 1978.

Elsewhere the inimitable Ed Asner, a titan of the industry with more than 400 acting credits to his name across TV and film, was conspicuously absent, and comedian-actor Norm Macdonald also failed to make the cut.

Perhaps the most surprising omission in terms of young actors working right up their deaths, however, was French actor Gaspard Ulliel.

Considering that the Academy made such a big deal about this year's reworked show allowing more time for non-awards segments, these exclusions really stuck out.
