1. CODA Wins Best Picture & Suffers Instant Backlash
Though The Power of the Dog was the odds-on favourite to win the Best Picture Oscar for basically the last few months, a late surge of support for CODA allowed it to storm ahead and take the gold.
And while its victory here is certainly a great win for representation in cinema, it also feels like it may ultimately be the worst thing that could happened to the film legacy-wise.
Many have already taken to social media to lump CODA in with the likes of Crash and Green Book as frothy, crowd-pleasing movies that had no business winning Best Picture.
While CODA is a considerably better film than either of those divisive Best Picture winners, the bitterness from those who felt The Power of the Dog deserved to win is understandable - it's certainly the more artistically accomplished of the two films.
As a result it's a bittersweet victory for CODA - an incredible underdog story for its cast and crew, even if long-term the Best Picture win may ultimately harm its reputation in the annals of film history.
These many gripes accepted, though, the show certainly wasn't all bad. Here's what the Academy got right...
