Oscars 2023: Final Predictions In Every Category
13. Best Film Editing
NOMINEES:
The Banshees of Inisherin
Elvis
Everything Everywhere All at Once
Tár
Top Gun: Maverick
What Should Win:
Everything Everywhere All at Once
As technically impressive as Eddie Hamilton's work is on Top Gun: Maverick, there's an adventurousness and boldness to Paul Rogers' editing on Everything Everywhere All at Once that pushes it over the top.
The editing is a vital piece of the narrative puzzle, and were it any less precise could've easily caused the film to feel languorous or confusing.
What Will Win:
Everything Everywhere All at Once
This is a two-horse race between Everything Everywhere All at Once and Top Gun: Maverick, both of which recently prevailed in the Comedy and Dramatic categories respectively at the ACE Eddie Awards.
On one hand a film hasn’t won this award without also being nominated for Best Sound since The Departed in 2007, which tips the balance in favour of Top Gun, but Everything Everywhere All at Once has swept most of the precursors and even won Best Editing at the BAFTAs, where it was otherwise shut out.
It's probably going to Everything Everywhere All at Once, but Top Gun stealing it away wouldn't exactly be a shocker.
