Oscars 2024: 20 Insanely Early Predictions

Here's a prediction that's one-part obvious, one-part bold - Dune: Part Two will split most of the technical awards with... Barbie.

Though sequels often struggle to replicate their predecessor's awards success, the inevitable technical ingenuity of the Dune sequel will surely be impossible for Academy voters to ignore.

Expect it to win all or most of the awards it did last time - that is, Best Cinematography, Production Design, Visual Effects, Score, Sound, and Film Editing, while Barbie's lush, eye-popping crafts work could very well see it scoop Costume Design and Makeup and Hairstyling.

It's of course impossible to discount Oppenheimer here, which will put up a serious fight against Dune, but given the more modest scope of Nolan's biopic, the Academy will probably favour the epic sci-fi sequel.
