Amadeus is a gorgeously mounted drama which makes the most of the central Mozart-Salieri rivalry to ensure its beefy 161-minute runtime actually clips by fairly quickly.
You needn't be a card-carrying fan of classical music to appreciate its fascinating observations of artistic genius and those who are blessed with it. But the music's pretty damn great, too.
What could've been a stodgy, bloated biopic is one of the best examples of well-executed Oscar-bait there is.
