Oscars Nominations 2022: 8 Ups & 9 Downs

7. Being The Ricardos & House Of Gucci Miss Out On Top Honours

In recent months it seemed like Being the Ricardos' awards momentum was slowly building to the point that it could score Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay nominations for what is a fundamentally... fine film that has no business being anywhere near the Oscars.

Though Javier Bardem's Best Actor nod is still a puzzler, the film received three acting nominations - also Nicole Kidman for Best Actress and J.K. Simmons for Best Supporting Actor - and nothing else, which is a fair enough fate for it.

And then there's House of Gucci, which was again tipped to scoop up a ton of nominations, with many predicting Best Picture, Lady Gaga for Best Actress, and most controversially Jared Leto for Best Supporting Actor.

In the end Gucci even missed out on possible below-the-line nods for Production Design and Costume Design, scoring just a solitary nomination for Makeup & Hairstyling.

Again it's an acceptable fate for a film that, while entertaining, shouldn't really be in serious Oscar contention.
