Outlaw King Review: 7 Ups & 2 Downs

3. Barry Ackroyd's Beautiful Cinematography

Oscar-nominated cinematographer Barry Ackroyd (The Hurt Locker, Captain Phillips) once again displays his impeccable talent for gritty beauty with his terrific lensing for this film.

The sweeping landscape shots in Outlaw King, of which there are many, are absolutely breathtaking, while even the most grounded and straightforward dialogue feels richly ravishing. The warmth of these scenes is contrasted with the more muted harshness of the exterior treks and battles.

An opening single-take sequence is for sure the most memorably-shot scene in the film, but if you own a 4K TV, you'll most likely be frequently wowed by Netflix's eye-wateringly impressive HDR presentation here.
