20 INSANE Recent Movies You Probably Missed

7. Heel

Heel Stephen Graham
Signature Entertainment

Originally titled The Good Boy but renamed in many territories to avoid confusion with the numerous other films recently bearing that name, Heel is one sick puppy of a movie alright.

Stephen Graham is phenomenal as ever as Chris, who with his wife Kathryn (Andrea Riseborough) abducts teenage criminal Tommy (Anson Boon) and attempts to "tame" him in the basement of their remote Yorkshire house.

It might sound like a pretty typical setup for an abduction thriller, but director Jan Komasa offers a fiercely original take that asks tough questions about rehabilitation while serving up some dark - very dark - humour.

Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough are outstanding as Tommy's captors, though Anson Boon stands tall alongside them as a deeply obnoxious victim to whom there are hidden layers of complexity.

Heel didn't do much business on theatrical release, though considering the marvelous work of everyone involved it absolutely deserves cult classic status in the years to come.
