19. The Bride!
Though surely the most high-profile and star-studded film on this list, the box office numbers indicate that most folk didn't bother checking out Maggie Gyllenhaal's utterly bonkers Bride of Frankenstein reimagining, The Bride!
It is, for its many faults, nothing if not a bold creative swing, focused on an American woman, Ida (Jessie Buckley), who becomes possessed by the ghost of Frankenstein author Mary Shelley (also Buckley), before dying and being resurrected as a companion for Frank, aka Frankenstein's Monster (Christian Bale).
Gyllenhaal's film takes obvious cues from the story and tone of both Bonnie and Clyde and 2019's Joker, but the whole is such a barmy mish-mash of half-developed ideas that one can scarcely believe Warner Bros. bankrolled it to the tune of $90 million.
The fact they forced the film through an extensive "fine-tuning" process in post-production perhaps suggests a little buyer's remorse on their part, though with the final film reportedly being a far cry from Gyllenhaal's even wilder original take, it's a damn shame we'll probably never get to see it.
