Pacific Rim: Uprising - Ranking Every Major Character From Worst To Best

1. Amara Namani

Pacific Rim Uprising Cailee Spaeny

Amara is by far the most interesting, likeable and well-developed character in the entire film: a super-smart cadet desperately seeking to fight the Kaiju and avenge the deaths of her parents.

Giving the film a teenage protagonist could've easily felt like a lazy, cynical attempt to pander to kids, but the movie doesn't treat her like a child at all, resulting in her becoming the gutsiest and most resourceful character of all.

It's a testament to Cailee Spaeny's strong performance - far better than this material deserves, really - that her potentially cliched character doesn't just feel like Mako 2.0. Considering the marketing barely focused on her at all, it's surprising just how effortlessly she rises to the top, far ahead of even the original film's returning characters.

That may speak more to some poor creative decisions on the part of the screenwriters, but on her own merits, Amara is the plucky, determined hero fans deserve. Her development feels a little rushed at times, but compared to most everyone else in the film, she's great.
