Pacific Rim: Uprising - Ranking Every Major Character From Worst To Best

7. Dr. Newton Geiszler

Pacific Rim Uprising Charlie Day
Universal

Good lord, what did they do to Newt (Charlie Day) in this movie? Though he was one of the goofy highlights of the original, here his character is taken in a highly ill-advised direction, his mind having been taken over by the Precursors, making him the ultimate antagonist.

As if that's not baffling enough, Newt even appears to get sexual gratification from drifting with a Kaiju brain. Yup. Charlie Day tries his hardest to make the bizarre twist work, but rather than an intriguing spin on his character, it basically felt like Newt was needlessly butchered.

He'll be back for the third film - if it happens, of course - but hopefully the Precursors' hold over him will quickly be severed and fans will get their Newt back.
