Pacific Rim: Uprising Review - 3 Ups & 7 Downs

1. Cailee Spaeny's Compelling Female Lead

Pacific Rim Uprising Cailee Spaeny

Easily the movie's most pleasant surprise is the charming and thoroughly convincing performance from Cailee Spaeny as 15-year-old cadet Amara Namani.

Though the idea of hurling a child into all this madness had the potential to go horribly wrong, Spaeny is a terrific young actress who makes Amara by far the most likeable and interesting character in the entire film.

She's not merely a tag-along but a capable hero with a fitting motivation, and fingers crossed she'll want to return in the event a third film actually happens. The series isn't exactly brimming with genuinely affable characters front-and-centre right now, so the filmmakers are certainly onto something with Amara.
