Paranormal Activity - The Ghost Dimension: 12 Ways It Ruins The Franchise

6. The Plot Has Gaping Holes In Logic

Even ignoring the rather dubious internal logic of Toby getting a human form, the film raises a ton of questions regarding its own logic which don't appear to have especially sensible answers. For one, why would the coven, who have proven to be almost hilariously efficient at cleaning up their own messes in the past, leave behind a spirit camera and tapes of Katie and Kristi for the Fleeges family to stumble across? Why help clue them in to what's going on when they can just be picked off unawares by Toby instead? Who even made the camera? And when mention is given to Katie being the fake real estate agent who helped sell the Fleeges the house (with a price that was "too good to be true"), she only changes her surname. Why take the risk by still having the same first name? Of course, the answer to this and other questions is pretty much "because the movie wouldn't happen otherwise", but it's really just slapdash writing. Each of these questionable plot elements could have been written in a more coherent way with relative ease.
