Peanuts Movie: 4 Reasons It Could Be Good (And 5 It Could Be Terrible)
3. Preserving The Spirit Of The Originals
The filmmakers behind the Peanuts movie have one of the most dangerous uphill battles to fight: the battle against Nostalgia. The Peanuts TV specials and cartoons have managed to maintain a strong following for generations, and if the new movie doesn't maintain some sort of fidelity to its predecessors, it runs the rusk of alienating every Peanuts fan. This is why it is something of a relief to see within this trailer an awareness of the iconic nature of Charlie Brown, without being irreverent or disingenuous. He is presented without any revisionism, possibly under the belief that seeing good Ol' Charlie Brown in 3D was as much as we could handle in the first teaser. As it was, the teaser seemed more of an announcement for Charlie Brown's return rather than his re-imagining, which is a confident step in the right direction.
