Peanuts Movie: 4 Reasons It Could Be Good (And 5 It Could Be Terrible)

3. Soulless Imitation

Lucy Football Peanuts ...this. There is a fine line between paying homage to a classic and having no original ideas of your own. It is a very real possibility that the filmmakers behind this new Peanuts are too close to the material, and just end up running over the same beats seen in comic after comic: Lucy and the Football, Snoopy and the Red Baron, all of which are classic gags, but if the filmmakers contribute nothing new, the movie will come off as a shameless attempt to cash in on the Nostalgia dollar. It is up to the filmmakers to come up with something new to bring to the table while still staying true to the spirit of the classics. This is a finer line than most animated filmmakers have ever had to walk, given the uniquely iconic place Peanuts holds in the hearts of its target audience.
