Peter Dinklage: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

1. Rowlie - Lassie (2005)

It's a testament to Dinklage's skill that this sits as his worst performance. In fact, it's unenviable position can generally be blamed on one very simple problem. A problem that's troubled actors like Russell Crowe and Cameron Diaz before him. I'm talking about the Oyrish accent. Dinklage plays a weary traveler who befriends the eponymous dog in this inoffensive adaptation (it's certainly a better film than Underdog), complete with a forced and overcooked Irish accent. As the film plays out in England, it's possible the accent is intended as a hybrid (like Crowe's equally dire effort in Robin Hood) but it still distracts the pants off you. Doesn't much help that he spends most of the movie with a dog, which understandably renders conversation one-sided. So for Dinklage's portion of the feature the audio track's just a mix of whimsical music and dodgy Irish vocals. Not my favourite combination to be honest. Lassie is extremely forgettable. In fact, the only thing I properly remember is Dinklage's ignoble contribution. For that reason, and because he really is a fabulous actor, this turn resides at the bottom of my list. Agree with this list? Or did we get Dinklage totally wrong? Let us know what you think down in the comments.
