Flawless is a bit of a strange film, but Hoffman's performance as drag queen Rusty is both surprising and the central performance of the film. Yes, Robert De Niro's Walt Koontz is probably considered the main character, but as usual Hoffman's role transcends "supporting" and pretty much becomes the only reason to keep watching this movie. The scene where he ignites a drag queen brawl at a voter registration booth (pictured above) is probably the best, but I could hardly post that video and pretend it isn't rife with nasty language. And besides, the scene where Rusty teaches Koontz - who has recently suffered a life-altering stroke - how to sing is quite touching.
