And finally, it'd be remiss not to mention a stellar musical score from legendary, three-time-Oscar-winning composer Howard Shore.

While it's absolutely fair to say that the film could've been released without a score and probably been nearly as effective, Shore's dynamic work adds a neat spicing to the drama on offer.

Though the film boasts a few memorable orchestral swells to accentuate the heartbreak, the big surprise here is the occasional inclusion of some jazzy interludes to subtly lighten the mood ever-so-slightly.

Despite a few moments where the score threatens to overcome what we're seeing on screen, it's mostly well-suited to the material and helps take the emotion to another level.
