Pitch Perfect 3 Review: 3 Ups & 6 Downs
3. The Editing Is A Total Mess
It's abundantly clear from watching this film that it was torn to shreds in post-production. Numerous scenes from the trailers have either been re-purposed into montages or removed from the film entirely (especially a parachuting sequence involving Wilson and Kendrick's characters).
Furthermore, the film pointlessly begins with a set-piece from the movie's third-act boat showdown, which seems like a padded attempt to make the movie run longer than 90 minutes, because the same sequence is repeated later on without much in the way of added context.
Then there's the fact that some of the lip-syncing even seems off during the a capella sequences. While the series has never had its actors perform the various songs live, and that's totally fine, it's never been more obvious than here. It just seems blatant in a way that the previous films weren't.
