Pixar: Ranking Their Films From Best To Worst

11. Monsters University

Late Despite never getting anywhere near the heights of Monsters Inc, there is still enough fun to be had with Monsters University. Whilst it takes a while to get going, the teenage Mike and Sulley are funny enough to get us through without too many complaints. What the film mainly lacks is a heart, which is what made the first one so great and everlasting. There's no emotion to be invested in the film because it's one of Pixar's lighter efforts that focusses heavily on comedy and leaves out much of the drama that they've become famous for. What Monsters University really missed is Boo and all of her charm and sweetness, and the end result is a slightly above average college comedy. Pixar did have so much to live up to with this film that anything less than perfection would have been deemed a disappointment and whilst it's easy to walk away from the film feeling let down, there are some good jokes to be had and the camaraderie between Mike and Sulley is still delightful. Monsters University is perhaps proof that Pixar are their own worse enemy, they've set themselves such a high precedent with so many enduring classics that we expect every film they release to be in a similar vein. The very best Pixar movies have a great sense of humanity and love, but sadly, Monsters University isn't one of them.
