Polar Review: 3 Ups & 6 Downs

5. The Obnoxious, Irritating Tone

This movie is probably really, really great if you're 13 years old.

It is a movie where Johnny Knoxville gets shot while receiving oral sex in the first three minutes, and mere moments later the audience is subjected to Mads Mikkelsen's assassin protagonist Duncan Vizla getting his prostate checked (by a doctor, at least).

Elsewhere a guy gets shot in the dick with a nail-gun and there's a joke about a dead dog that ends up falling howlingly flat.

It so desperately wants to be agreeably boundary-pushing and aggressively irreverent, but it comes off more desperate and, worse, annoying.

Polar contains pretty much everything a hormonal teenage boy would love: attractive women wearing precious little, plentiful blood-soaked action and tons of swearing, but none of it is delivered with any basic charm whatsoever.

Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes). General video game, TV and film nut. Occasional sports fan. Full time loon.
