Polar Review: 3 Ups & 6 Downs

4. The Plot Is Complete Nonsense

Though on the surface Polar appears to be yet another movie revolving around an ageing hitman who must go on one last killing spree before he retires, the plot is so utterly inconsequential you'd be forgiven for being unable to remember it as soon as the end credits roll.

The crux of the story sees Vizla being roped into one final mission before he retires from the assassin game, but of course, it's really an attempt by his boss, Mr. Blut (Matt Lucas), to get Vizla killed so he doesn't have to pay out a huge pension totalling millions of dollars. Yup.

With the right satirical touch it could've worked, but ultimately Polar's narratives shoots off in countless aimless directions, none of which are especially interesting and all of which are completely forgettable.

As much as the movie wants to insist it's different from the usual "one last job" movie, it hits most of the expected beats while needlessly piling subplot after subplot on top.
