POSTER: SOLOMON KANE

James Purefoy would have made an awesome Frank Castle but instead of starring in what will no doubt be a sub-par sequel to THE PUNISHER, he is starring in his own potential franchise based on Robert E. Howard's (he created CONAN too) original writings. He will be starring as SOLOMON KANE, a 16th century Puritan swordsman who has been cursed by his violent and brutal lifestyle and therefore decides to change his ways but when dark forces threaten the land, he has to rise and fight once more. Such dark forces include vampires, ghosts and other such monsters. The character of KANE has influenced many adventurers down the years, no one more so than Stephen Sommers' 2004 movie VAN HELSING. This new adaptation has to avoid making it look like that movie as much as possible and so far they haven't done such a great job (although I do like this poster)...

Michael J. Bassett directs the feature. Sadly, 5 years ago he butchered what I thought was an amazing idea with the War World II ghost movie DEATHWATCH, so hopefully I'm not being setup for another disappointment. Some casting news on this one, and The Emperor Ming himself Max von Sydow (who was also in Howard's CONAN THE BARBARIAN adaptation) has been cast as Solomon's father and Ian Whyte is on board as The Reaper. Purefoy looks great, I love this pulp genre but they really have to try and avoid that VAN HELSING imagery when this film opens late next year. source - moviehole
