Predator Skulls: 10 Mistakes It Needs To Avoid
7. Don't Go Back to the Jungle
Predator took place in a wonderfully atmospheric Central American rainforest. You could practically feel the sweltering heat that plagued Dutch's rescue team as they fled from their relentless foe. The setting also worked perfectly to enhance the theme of survival of the fittest, giving the conflict between alien and human a primal edge.
The sequel relocated the action to a similarly atmospheric future dystopian Los Angeles but Predators and The Predator didn't do much with their respective settings of an alien planet and small town USA.
Skulls director Dan Trachtenberg might be tempted to recapture some of the first film's magic by returning it to a jungle setting, but this would only feel tired since the jungle and the Predator are so firmly associated in pop culture consciousness.
The Predator is a creature that adapts to its surroundings to hunt its prey so the possibilities for new settings are limitless. What matters most is using the setting to build atmosphere, something that the latest entries in the series failed to do.
