Predicting 10 Ways Upcoming Marvel Movies Could Tie Into Infinity War
10. Thanos Is Actually Courting Hela, Not Death
When Cate Blanchett was confirmed to play Hela in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, it was a welcome if unexpected announcement. It seemed almost too good to be true; an actress of Blanchett’s status signing up to play a one-off villain in a franchise frequently criticised for having a ‘villain problem’?
But what if she isn’t playing a one-off villain?
In the comics, Hela is the Asgardian goddess of death, and with that title comes a lot of speculation regarding the relationship she may hold with Thanos. It’s a relatively well known fact that the comic book incarnation of Thanos is in love with Death, embarking on his campaign of destruction in order to impress her.
While Death and Hela are in fact two separate entities entirely in the Marvel Universe, it would make much more sense for Kevin Feige and co. to streamline the MCU by combining the two characters into one to erase any confusion completely.
After all, wouldn’t it be odd to be introduced to two different incarnations of death within three consecutive movies, especially after managing to book Blanchett for the role of Hela? In addition to this, the rights for the character of Death fall into murky territory given her various appearances across the Marvel Universe, most notably in Deadpool stories.
