As the recent trailers for Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 have made quite clear, Gamora’s adopted sister turned nemesis Nebula will actually become a member of the team this time around. While we only caught a relatively small glimpse of Thanos in the first movie, he played an important role in the character arcs of both Gamora and Nebula, who didn’t end up on good terms by the end of the story to say the least.

In fact, Nebula’s blind loyalty to Thanos during the events of the original film was so strong that it seems the only thing that could possibly reunite her with her sister would be a mutual disdain for their former father figure/owner.

Perhaps Thanos has finally pushed Nebula too far the way he did with Gamora, or maybe Nebula is just setting up a good old-fashioned betrayal. Either way, there’s certainly something brewing to bring the duo back together in Guardians 2, and whether or not that thing is Thanos himself, it’s pretty hard to imagine him not getting at least a mention in the film considering that the two characters’ identities are so heavily tied to the Mad Titan.
