16. It: Chapter Two ($630 Million)

It was one of the most fascinating box office successes of the last few years, grossing a mind-boggling $700.4 million when most industry experts had it pegged at maybe 50-60% of that figure.

And though Chapter Two is sure to be a stonking hit on its similarly modest price tag, it probably won't fly quite as high as the first.

For starters, the second half of the book is infamously worse and therefore much tougher to adapt, and despite an all-star cast, it won't be able to draw from the well of 80s nostalgia quite as aggressively as its predecessor.

It'll still be a smash hit, though, and likely foretell a glut of glossy Stephen King remakes in the coming years (which, with Pet Sematary due out soon, is basically already underway).
