Predicting The Rotten Tomatoes Scores Of 2026's Biggest Movies
17. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (68%)
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a completely fine adaptation of the legendary video game franchise that didn't give two figs about what critics thought, grossing over $1.3 billion globally no matter that its Tomatometer settled at an unremarkable 59%.
One suspects the impending The Super Mario Galaxy Movie might pull a Sonic the Hedgehog 2, however, and deliver a modestly improved follow-up.
For one, the visual grandeur of the Super Mario Galaxy games is undeniable, and from what we've seen so far the film appears to capture that.
For anyone who thought the Mushroom Kingdom aesthetic felt a little too samey in the first movie, Galaxy is unlikely to face the same criticism.
Elsewhere, anyone who took umbrage with Chris Pratt's casting as Mario is unlikely to be swayed, though perhaps they might be less fired up about it three years later and give him an easier time.
It certainly won't hurt that the sequel will introduce fan favourite characters Bowser Jr. (Benny Safdie) and Rosalina (Brie Larson), either.
